Don't take a risk with your refrigerated vans

Cold chain products are fragile and need to be maintained at optimum temperatures and conditions. To minimise risks during transportation, your fleet needs sophisticated refrigerated vans that can guarantee the safe delivery of cold chain products.

Minimise food contamination

Despite ongoing efforts to keep the UK’s food supply safe, contamination still happens, leading to food poisoning outbreaks. Contamination with potentially life-threatening bugs such as E. coli and salmonella can occur during transport, if raw food touches ready-to-eat produce, or if surfaces and containers aren’t effectively cleaned.

E. coli is especially dangerous to the public as it can cause serious illness and even death. The bacteria has a very low infective dose, and also has the ability to survive extreme conditions such as freezing and refrigeration, according to Food Standards.

As well as putting the health of consumers at risk, a public food poisoning scandal can have a detrimental impact on the perception of your business and the safety of your food produce.

Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe, warns that “we significantly underestimate how many people become ill from chemicals in the food chain and from common microorganisms”. He further explains that a single failure in food safety in any area of the supply chain “can have significant health and economic consequences”.

According to Food Standards, the best way to minimise contamination risks during transport is to ensure that raw foods are adequately wrapped, packaged and stored separately from ready-to-eat foods in the vehicle.

Our refrigerated vehicles are equipped with multi-compartment refrigerated bodies and ample ventilation, keeping raw meat products safely contained. Our vans have also been constructed with easy-to-clean internal surfaces to maintain optimum hygiene standards, further minimising contamination risks.

Temperature consistency is essential

For pharmaceuticals to be effective and safe for patient use, they need to be maintained at a specific temperature range. Failure to provide an ideal environment for pharmaceuticals can result in serious complications.

Over-heating can make vaccines ineffective, and although there is often little harm done to patients initially, they will be under the impression that they are immunised against certain viruses. This could potentially place their health at risk later in life.

Over-freezing can have more serious implications. By irreversibly altering the chemical make-up of pharmaceuticals, patients can be subjected to a host of unpleasant symptoms such as swelling, redness and bruising, which can understandably scare patients.

If pharmaceuticals are found to be compromised, in most instances, they will be thrown away. However, this comes at a price. Last year, the industry lost £255 million due to damaged medicines and vaccines.

To minimise costs and care for patients, transport fleets need access to sophisticated temperature control technology. As pharmaceuticals usually contain living materials such as blood and plasma, they often need to be maintained within a specific temperature range. Fleet drivers also need to be able to modify the temperature of their refrigerator units easily and safely.

Our refrigerated vans come equipped with advanced Transcan temperature recorders, placing temperature control completely in your hands, while offering full monitoring visibility and data accuracy.

In the rare situation that one of your vehicles breaks down, or there is a power failure, your pharmaceuticals can be compromised. Just a few hours out of their recommended temperature range can permanently damage medicines and vaccines, rendering them useless. We therefore offer stand-by refrigerated units, to ensure pharmaceuticals aren’t compromised. To ensure as little disruption as possible, we instigate a ‘keep you on the road’ philosophy, with breakdown support available 24/7, 365 days a year, ensuring that your refrigerated vans are fully operational in no time.
